Knit a Beret / Tam – Fair Isle or Hearts in Lace
Friday, 2pm to 5pm
Snowflake Fair Isle Beret/Tam for intermediate knitters where you will learn how to work Fair Isle with 2 hands, unless you already do. This pattern starts at the brim. We will be working with a color chart. Bring some scrap yarn in two colors for practice, worsted or thinner is best. Materials include the pattern, a top button and 2 colors of fingering yarn $25 (a solid and a colorway) or $18.50 (undyed ecru and a colorway. Choices forthcoming to those who sign up.
Circle of Hearts Beret starts at the center top and works outward. Not for beginners but definitely doable for someone who has been knitting for a few months +. You will learn how to add beads one at a time with a crochet hook and NO stringing. You will also be following a lace chart and will learn how to do that too, if needed. Yarn, beads, pattern and crochet hook $28. Choices will be forthcoming to those who sign up.

So you have decided to make your own yarn. Fantastic! You will soon be knitting or crocheting with one-of-a-kind yarn. We will learn the Spin and Park method of spinning. You will learn about a few types of fibers and which are best for beginners and how to prepare for spinning. If there is time you will also learn plying. An ounce of fiber will be supplied for each student. Materials include a simple hand turned spindle (by Jim) for $30. More fiber will be available for purchase.
Susan Sarabasha has enjoyed many careers: drafter, cook, illustrator and middle school teacher. She is currently playing with dye, fiber, yarn and patterns along with her dog, 2 cats and husband in her rural hillside home. She gets the most fun out of dreaming up a knitted garment and then figuring out how to knit it up.
